During the March to June 2023 period, Will has shown exponential improvement in his knowledge of search and recovery assets. He deployed on the DDT Field Survey and then immediately after volunteered to stay onboard to support the follow-on Pacific Ops I Operation. During his time aboard on these two jobs, he devoted an extremely high effort into learning the launch and recovery procedures of both CURV21 and the Hugin AUV.
As a result of his determination, he has become capable in both processes. In a short period, he has also become a proficient pilot and co-pilot of the CURV21 system. After assisting with building mission plans and launching the Hugin AUV on long missions, Will would remain in the operations hut monitoring, watching the systems parameters and reports, and learning all aspects of the system. When on shift and not explicitly engaged in operations, he could be found out on deck looking for work to do and ways to get involved with operations even without being asked by a supervisor. He would spend his off-shift time learning the “4D Nav” navigation software, in order to be a useful and vital part of the team. Will’s effort to take it upon himself to make the most of the on-the-job training was noticed by both his peers and management. Because of Will’s strong work ethic, commitment, and dedication to learning to become a key member of Phoenix’s Undersea Operations Team, he is chosen to be our Largo Employee of the 2nd Quarter.
Well done, Will!
